Get involved! Check out opportunities!
I am a mom of two. Sam is a 1st grader in Mrs. Assink's class and Jack is a 4th grader in Mr. Ooms class. As a former Special Education and Kindergarten teacher, being in the school is what I enjoy most about serving in the PTO. I continue to substitute teach and look forward to events like classroom parties and Talking Canvas, which get parents into the building.
You'll often see me walking my child to school—rain, shine, or snow! Living within walking distance definitely makes it easier, and I’m committed to being there. Summer is one of my favorite times of the year because it means more time with my kids. We spend most of it outside playing, hiking, biking, and walking as a family. We also love to travel, and summer gives us more freedom to explore with school out.
If you see me around this school year, please say hello—I’d love to meet you! I'm excited to serve as co-VP of the PTO and look forward to supporting our school community.
My wife Kara and I have two boys at Walnut Hills. Ashton is in 2nd grade and Keaton is in Kindergarten. We love everything about Walnut Hills, from the amazing teachers and staff, Beyond the Bell, the families, and the tremendous support of the PTO. I look forward to being more involved and giving back to such a great WHE community.
Hi! I’m Laura Erickson, and I’m honored to serve as this year’s Secretary for PTO at Walnut Hills. I’m a mom to three amazing kids: Drew, who’s entering 4th grade and is part of the Special Education program; Anna, going into 2nd grade; and Isaac, who has one more year of preschool. For the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of working at Walnut Hills as a substitute school nurse, which gave me a unique perspective on the care and support our students need each day.
As PTO Secretary, my goals are to help strengthen communication between families and the school, ensure that all voices are heard, and promote an inclusive environment where every child—especially those with special needs—feels supported, welcomed, and valued. I’m excited for a great year of connection and community at Walnut Hills!
